The current "3 + 3 + 4" high school system allows students to attend the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) after completing three-years of junior high school and three years of senior secondary education. Upon reaching a certain level, they will be admitted to a four-year university degree courses or other post-secondary courses. In addition to the four compulsory subjects (Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics and Liberal Studies), students also study two to three elective subjects which can be selected from the high school elective subjects in different fields of study such as the Applied Learning Curriculum and / or other language courses.
University
As one of the most competitive cities in the world, Hong Kong has many of the best teaching and academic research achievements in the Asia Pacific region. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016-17, five of the six colleges and universities in Hong Kong are within the top 200 and Hong Kong is home to the largest of 200 universities in all of Asia. The weather and the time difference
Hong Kong is a sub-tropical climate with distinct characteristics all year round. Spring, from March to mid-May, is warm with humid weather. The average temperature is 23 degrees Celsius with humidity of about 82%. May to September is summer and the weather is hot and very humid, the temperature can be as high as 33 degrees Celsius with humidity of up to 90%. In summer, Hong Kong also has a rainy season with showers and thunderstorms. Summer rainfall accounts for about 90% of the total annual rainfall and occasional tropical cyclones (typhoons) hit. Autumn is from late September to late December, with an average temperature of 23 degrees Celsius and humidity of 72%. The weather is usually clear, sunny and dry. Winter is from late December to February. Humidity returns to 70% with an average temperature of 20 degrees Celsius. However, in the event of a cold current, the temperature can drop sharply to 10 degrees Celsius.
